Ghansoli Railway Station Neglected Despite Heavy Daily Footfall
Ghansoli is a key railway station on the Thane–Vashi railway route. Hundreds of passengers commute through this station every day. Due to the large Matadi (head-load workers) settlements in Ghansoli, there is heavy movement of Matadi workers through the station during morning and evening hours. In addition, Ghansoli serves as a central transit point for workers travelling to the Mahape MIDC area, resulting in consistently high passenger traffic. As a result, the station remains crowded throughout the day.

However, the current condition of the railway station paints a disappointing picture. Basic passenger amenities are severely lacking. Commuters are often forced to walk through stagnant sewage water while entering or exiting the station. Loose and hanging electrical wires can be seen across the premises, posing a serious safety risk. Ceiling fans on the platforms frequently stop working, and some appear to have been installed merely for display rather than actual use.
In several areas, tiles on the station walls have come off, making the station look dilapidated and poorly maintained. Uncleanliness is a constant issue, adding to passengers’ discomfort and raising health concerns.
Drinking Water Facility Only for Show
The condition of the drinking water facility at Ghansoli Railway Station is equally alarming. The water area is extremely unhygienic, with missing taps and no water supply. Passengers are unable to access safe drinking water on the platforms. This has led commuters to question whether the water facility exists merely as a formality rather than a functional public service.
Daily passengers have expressed anger and frustration, urging railway authorities to take immediate action to improve cleanliness, restore basic facilities, and ensure a safe and dignified environment for the thousands who rely on this station every day.
